Naturally Scented Pine Cone Recipe

My health and those of the clients I work with either have to depend on choosing to live a chemical and fragrance-free lifestyle, or are just learning how to live without the toxins that have compromised their health for far too long.  Here I am excited to share with you and EASY EASY EASY alternative to making your home smell incredible without the negative toxic effects of fragrances and chemicals entering your home or body.

How can something smell so good and be so bad for you?

Just imagine walking into a store and smelling the nostalgic holiday scents that remind you of pine cones, Christmas trees, and cinnamon cookies?  Yes, I used to LOVE those holiday scents until I realized that those natural fragrances' are actually just a mix of chemicals that would give me mild allergies and sometimes headaches. If you are sensitive, you know exactly what I am talking about!

These days, most of the time, holiday scents and candles are most likely scented with funky endocrine disruptor fragrances that are chemically based and not derived directly from nature.  What does that mean?  They are toxic to your health and can mess up your hormones and detox pathways, to name just a few issues.

I learned early on recognizing artificial odor in candles, make-up,  perfumes, or those Christmas scented pine cones at Trader Joe's and major department stores from a mile away.  That is why I am giving you an alternative that you and your family will flip over!

But, first.

Why raise an eyebrow at the term 'natural fragrance'?

If you dive deep into what goes into making beauty products and candles, for example, you may find out more than you bargained for. In fact, the International Fragrance Association has published a transparency list of over 3,000 ingredients used to create fragrance mixes. If you scroll down the list, you will see chemicals associated with cancer, endocrine disruption, and allergic reactions. For instance, the US National Toxicology Program has classified styrene and di(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate as "reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens."

I say I deserve better, keep moving on until I find something that indeed smells good and also keeps me healthy!

Here we go, let's make your home smell AMAZING!

To begin, find pinecones, either open or closed, and brush off any leaves or debris that may catch on fire in the oven.  You may also like to rinse them out first if they appear too dirty.  Closed pine cones will open in the oven while baking on a low temp of 200 F- which is so cool!

I love that you can pop them into an oven and soon smell the soothing scent of natural pine coming from them.

Next, wait for them to cool down and then sprinkle them with a pure quality essential oil.   I made this beautiful kitchen display above using the eo (essential oil) scented pine cones in the bathrooms, around the Christmas tree, and even in my car!

MMMM-I can smell them now!

NATURALLY SCENTED PINECONE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Baking sheet

Pinecones

Essential oils

BAKE: 200 F degrees for one hour

COOL DOWN and sprinkle with essential oils of choice

It is that easy!

NOTES: In this photo, I used peppermint and cinnamon bark from Young Living company.  When the scent wears out, as natural scents do, I'll add more.  I can also change it up with the Christmas blends that I recently bought from the Revive Essential Oil company at a fraction of the cost of Young Living or Doterra- shhh, don't tell them I'm sharing this!  Actually, they are my new favorite essential oil company!  Also, I recently became an affiliate of the 4Life company becuase of a few products that have been part of empowering my immune system, such as the Transfer Factor Molecule I write about in my blog post.   Many friends and clients have asked me about this company because it was an important player in helping me reverse cancer. I thought I would also link the oils here

There are so many ways to replace fragrances with essential oils!  I was hoping you could share with me your tips and let me know how this works out for you!

I hope this brings you JOY,

Yve
